Lima is the culinary capital of Peru, and possibly of all South America, and the city is full of good places to eat, ranging from the cheap and cheerful, to among the best, and most expensive, in all the Americas. There are restaurants serving traditional Peruvian food, as well as the standard international restaurants. Seafood is obviously among the best choices, given Lima's location.
Barranco has some very pleasant restaurants, and makes for a nice place to have lunch and relax, or in the evening to have a good meal before heading for a bar or disco. Restaurants range from the very good, and very expensive, to cheap, pleasant places.Just close to our hotel are some trendy places to visit:
- Restaurant 73
- Chala
- Picas
Two of the most known seafood restaurants in Lima are also close to our place; The Rosa Nautica and the Costa Verde, both located on the sea front.
There are many decent, good-value places to eat in the centre of Lima, especially on the streets around the Plaza Mayor. Also, there are several good chifas in Lima's China Town, However, the best restaurants in the city are in Miraflores, Barranco and San Isidro.
In Miraflores, there are many restaurants around Av. La Paz and Av. Shell serving decent set lunches for less than $2. These tend to be popular with office workers. There are plenty of upmarket cafes on Parque Kennedy, which are nice places for a beer and for people watching, as well as having reasonable food. Most have similar prices, charging about $5-$10 for a meal. Running off Av. Diagonal is Calle San Ramón, commonly known as La Calle de las Pizzas or Pizza Alley. There are plenty of pavement restaurants on this street, serving many kinds of food, but specialising in pizzas. Most are quite similar in price and quality.
There are plenty of restaurants in Larcomar, most of which are part of chains, e.g. These are generally pleasant places to eat with decent food, and often a view of the sea. These often have good buffet lunches of typical Peruvian food.
Lima has plenty of fast food restaurants, with McDonalds , Burger King , KFC and Pizza Hut all represented. These are found throughout the city, with Miraflores and San Isidro having more than their fair share. However, the best burger place is probably the local Bembos , with many hamburgers based on Peruvian dishes. There are also food courts at Jockey Plaza and the Larcomar complex, with many fast food restaurants, including Manos Morenas, which serves tasty Peruvian Creole food. Bear in mind that fast food is not cheap in Lima, and for the same price as a burger and fries you can get a very decent meal in many restaurants.
